Today’s cell phones are more than just phones; they are high-tech devices that some would consider mini-computers. Today’s cell phones allow people to surf the Internet, conduct text conversations with others, take pictures, record videos, download and listen to music, play games. For children and teenagers, this allows for anytime, anywhere communication, especially when it comes to friends. With cell phones, children are always only a few buttons away, highly connected and almost always available. Parents who allow their children to have cell phones feel secure that they can contact their children at a moment’s notice. Technology gives teens, and some adults, more ways to do something other than what they are supposed to such as†¦show more content†¦Thus, teachers who have a supervision system that works for computers at school may unknowingly give their student a work-around for getting into trouble outside of the school in a way that is even more con venient to the student. A survey from almost 300 marketing majors about their texting in class had results confirm what I’m guessing many of us already suspect. A whopping 98% of the students reported that they had texted some time during the term in which the data was collected. They did this for an unimpressive set of reasons, the most popular being, just wanting to text, Fifty-six percent of the group said they were currently taking a class in which the teacher banned texting. Forty-nine percent said they chose texted anyway. The researchers note that at one time most faculty objected when students brought food and drink into class and now that’s accepted in many classrooms. While most schools ban or limit cell phone use on school grounds and especially in the classroom, many students admit to using cell phones in the classroom anyway. In a 2010 Pew Research Center study, the researchers found that 64 percent of teens with cell phones said they have texted in class before and 43 percent said they texted in class at least once a day.
